The Road to Mit brennender Sorge

On July 20, 1993, then Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli — acting on behalf of Pope Pius XI — signed a treaty with the emerging National Socialist regime. Before any other State or international actor, it was the Holy See which gave official recognition to the German government.
