Radical Fidelity – An Amazing Chain of Graces

Monk Contemplating a Skull by Thomas Couture, 1875

This week, I cautiously want to step off the path I usually forge and, for a short while, take a detour through a gentler place.I say cautiously because, even among my own colleagues in the space where I labor for the Kingdom of Christ, there is a certain disapproval of laypeople who tackle lofty spiritual matters or dare to try their hand at the exegesis of Holy Scripture or great spiritual works. After all, they would rightly argue that I am not a priest, a spiritual director, and certainly not a saint. Quite the opposite. I can only echo St Paul when he described himself as the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15) and the least of all the saints (Ephesians 3:8).
