Recently, on two separate occasions, coming from two different sources, I heard the admonition (and I am paraphrasing) that one of the biggest mistakes we can make is to over-confidently assume we are part of “the good guys.”Sadly, this is what many, if not most, Catholics—or rather, persons who identify as Catholic—do. Somewhere in their formative years or, if they are converts, at RCIA (OCIA), they heard that the Catholic Church is the One True Church Christ founded, and because they have received the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation and attend “Mass” more-or-less every Sunday, they assume they are going to “make it” based on membership of “the club.”Needless to say, in most of these cases, even the club they find themselves in is the wrong one (the Synodal Church), and the little faith they have is not even the Catholic Faith. But that is a different conversation for another time, and one I address often.
