“Domestic Engineer” is the humorous title married women started giving themselves back in the feminist surge of late 70s, I think, when they started to be shamed as “just a housewife.”>I know this awkwardness personally, because I was a young bride in the early 80s in Washington, D.C., attending think-tank events with my husband and getting caught in conversations during the cocktail hour with all sorts of social and/or political climbers of both sexes. I experienced first-hand and quite often the frozen smile of a hard-edged career woman as she turned away from me with zero attempt at covering her rudeness, after discovering I had no G-level at all or job of any kind.
