Often, I guess as a form of consolation and to inspire myself, I like to meditate on previous crises in the Church. I try to put myself in the shoes of men like St. Athanasius during the Arian crisis, or those of the heroes of the Vendée resistance, and imagine what they felt, what they thought, and what their inner responses were.>I suppose we no longer have to wonder what it feels like to be alive in a time of crisis in the Church. Currently the true Church has just about been driven underground, a sophisticated campaign of persecution against Catholics from both inside and outside its structures is in full swing, and the lunatic enemies of Christ have taken over everywhere.>If you still think this “situation”, possibly the worst crisis in the Church’s history, is merely a phase that will blow over, then you need to take your head out of you-know-where.
